Yes. JTeach Academy is an inspected private high school with the Ontario Ministry of Education. This means that we have been given the authority to grant credits towards the completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

For more than 15 years, the Ontario Ministry of Education has been conducting annual inspections of Ontario schools, both public and private, to ensure that schools comply with Ministry policies. Each year, the Ministry lists all inspected or accredited schools on their website. They also list any schools that fail these inspections. This ensures Ontario families have access to the data they need to make informed decisions about their children’s education.

Typically, schools will proudly display their accreditation report or school number on their website. If they do not or you can’t easily find it, ask! A school representative should be able to easily and readily provide you with their school’s BSID or MIDENT number – the number used by the Ministry and other educational institutions to recognize that school within the provincial framework. Or, if you want to be absolutely sure, you can check the Ministry’s annual list of inspected private schools.

JTeach Academy’s BSID number is 884902. You may use this number to help you to search up information on JTeach Academy on the Ontario Ministry of Education website.

Credits taken through accredited schools (whether public or private) are transferrable between all Ministry-Inspected schools. This is because these institutions uphold the standards of the province-wide curriculum. By attending a Ministry-Inspected school, you ensure that you are learning material that is not only valuable, but of an appropriate difficulty, and structured in a way that follows modern educational understanding and standards.

JTeach Academy is supported by our parent charitable organization Jewish Learning Fund. Each donation equal or greater than the course fee made to Jewish Learning Fund (charitable donation receipts will be provided) qualifies students to take a one JTeach Academy course. If parents wish to pay the course fee as a direct payment and not to make a charitable donation in lieu of the course fee payment, they may contact the school at admin@jteachacademy.com for instructions on how to do so.

At JTeach Academy we offer 2 different learning formats: Guided Self-Directed Learning and Blended Learning. Summer School courses are only offered as Guided Self-Directed Learning courses, and school year courses are offered as Blended Learning or Guided Self-Directed Learning courses. Some school year courses may be offered in Guided Self-Directed Learning format.

Guided Self-Directed Learning courses involve students completing lessons and assignments according to a flexible schedule of learning. This allows students some control over their own schedule. Lessons and assignments must be completed in assigned order and students must log in to the JTeach Academy Learning Portal for a minimum amount of time per lesson period. Students may also receive support via email or through scheduled online meetings.

Blended Learning courses follow a more traditional format of learning. Classes are held once per week throughout the school year and alternate in-class and online lessons.

JTeach Academy offers Grade 11 University English (ENG3U), and Grade 12 University English (ENG4U). If there is sufficient interest, we may also offer other courses. If you are interested in a specific course on our regular schedule for Summer School, please contact us and let us know. All summer school courses are in our Guided Self-Directed Learning format.

The experiential learning component of the course is our way of ensuring that all of our JTeach Students make meaningful contributions to, and connections with, the Jewish community. This offers the students another opportunity to strengthen their own Jewish identities by becoming a part of something greater than themselves. Depending on the course, the experiential learning component may count for up to 10% of the overall course grade.

Due to the short timeframe of Summer Courses, there is no experiential learning component. The overall grade is based on 70% for course work and assignments and 30% for the Independent Study Project.
