This course examines the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the Holocaust including the development of antisemitism in Europe in the years preceding the Holocaust, the systemic orchestration of the Nazi plans that targeted the Jewish people for murder, the inhumane treatment of the Jewish people and others deemed undesirable by the Nazis and their collaborators, the lack of response from the allied nations, and the horrible aftermath of the trauma endured by the families of the victims and by the survivors. Students will develop and apply research skills in order to examine and create a report on the life of a Holocaust victim or survivor to honour their memory.
